The YBWS Empowerment Series provides Boston’s women of color a platform to discuss key issues affecting our community and create and strengthen networks for advancement. Each event features prominent local professionals speaking directly to the needs of the region’s women of color on issues of equity, access, and empowerment.
Since its inception in 2012, the Summit has been a day created for us by us! Women and girls of color who are leaders of today and tomorrow join us each year to be inspired and impacted in their personal and professional lives! Dynamic speakers share expertise and tools that cater to the millennial generation regarding leadership, business and entrepreneurship, volunteerism, health and wellness, career advancement, and more!

Mauricia D. Luma Scholarship Award
The Mauricia D. Luma Scholarship Award was created in memory of NBWS clerk and dedicated member, Mauricia D. Luma. To celebrate her life and honor her memory, NBWS will award two scholarships per year to local high schools of color to support collegiate or entrepreneurial pursuits.
NBWS community service programming provides members with an opportunity to be of service to their local communities through partnerships with nonprofit organizations and institutions that represent the needs of black women. The main goals of community programming is to educate NBWS members on key community issues, engage members in direct service opportunities, and identify community leadership opportunities for NBWS members.
